Shots in the driveway

Finally a clear day today after about two weeks of rain. Perfect for taking pictures of a 1981 Jeep Scrambler with a fresh coat of Eleanor Grey paint! NICE.

And a few height comparisons inside the garage tonight:

Body Progress

Just a real quick update, these pictures came from Todd and his visit out to Ricky's last week.
Man it looks sweet! Body has color now and Ricky is working on the final touches to it before I head out there with the frame later on this week.

Engine Officially In

I really couldn't say the engine was truly in until tonight once I got it mated with the transmission. It took a little work but finally got it in. The front output shaft on the transmission has two keys in it and they have to line up with two notches in the torque converter along with the splines along the output shaft and inside the torque converter. Basically, all of the planets have to be in line.

Driveshafts go in next and then plumbing fuel and brake lines, tub goes back on, wiring, crank....it'll all be just that easy. He..he..he......

ENGINE IS IN....

...well, sort of. Still need to mate it up to the transmission but it's bolted in to the motor mounts. SWEET! I've got other updates to post showing what transpired to get to this point but for now - engine is in.

AMC Blue and Valve Covers

Just a quick pic to show the current status.
I'll come back and add a few post in between showing what steps it took to get to this point including the installation of the oil pickup, dipstick tube, gaskets, oil pan, prep, primer, and painting.

Oil Pump

The AMC V8 oil pump has steel gears but an aluminum housing. The gears eventually wear into the filter portion of the housing which can lead to low oil pressures as the aluminum wears down. Bulltear makes what they call a mid plate that is made of steel that sandwiches between the gears and the aluminum filter housing to alleviate this problem. The gears came with the engine from Grooms in Nashville and were made by Melling.
